This book was conventionally published some years ago as an historical novel, but since there was the hint of a romance in it, that readers seemed to want, I decided to rewrite it and develop the romantic element more.
The result is the story of a young woman's struggle to cope, not only with her father's illness, but in hiding her brother, who has unintentionally failed to return to the front after his leave so is technically a deserter, and suffering from severe shell-shock. What happens when others find out and blackmail her? Is this the right time to fall in love? And can she trust Dr Ken Winterton? Where will his loyalties lie?
