alerting him of the murder of minor league ballplayer Lance Miller, he
finds himself trying to solve the case. The case stymies Crager worse
than a bad case of constipation. Suspects include the gym owner Crager
suspects of controlling the drug trade in town, Lance's two former
lovers and even the police chief who happens to be a pal of Crager's.
Crager is a no-nonsense, hard-drinking guy who left the Albuquerque
Police Department just short of a pension. He's quick with a wise crack,
even when he's taking his lumps from the bad guys and giving out a few
as well.
