Honoria Vaughn, like most twentysomethings, has no prospects or
passions, except for drinking and British history. After college, her
domineering single mother sets up an internship for her at Absolutely, a
luxury concierge service with ties to Buckingham Palace. With visions of
a royal future dancing in her alcohol-addled head, Honoria accepts the
internship and heads to London.
She quickly realizes she's in over her head in this milieu of
charismatic but troubled nobility who are absorbed with material things
and tabloid celebrity—and to make matters worse, her new roommate, Dana,
is a sanctimonious progressive running an NGO. Soon Honoria finds
herself questioning her co-workers by day, but defending their values
(or lack thereof) by night.
Meanwhile, Absolutely is on the brink of insolvency and must secure the
financial backing of an American rap mogul, Ripper RV, to survive. As
Honoria becomes the point person for this project and a celebrity in the
British press, she grows increasingly close to her aristocratic boss'
handsome, degenerate son, Jiffy—but she never imagines how intimate
they'll become. By the end of the book, she learns what it really means
to be modern aristocracy.
