Martin County Sheriff Detective Marcus Brubaker, worn down by fatigue and personal grief, is jolted awake by his ringing phone. Outside his condo, blue-white lightning flashes across the midnight sky, followed by thunder that shakes Fairmont, Minnesota, to its core. Brubaker drives into the atmospheric hell to investigate a brutal hit-and-run murder that leaves the victim’s face unrecognizable. Local obstetrician Bradley Ferguson was hit and dragged while changing a flat tire on his Jeep Wrangler in a deluge of rain. His lifeless body lies in the muddy water covering a rural Martin County highway. Brubaker recognized the Jeep’s vanity license plate, DRSTORK. A streak of green paint on a lug wrench leads to the murder weapon, a 1955 Studebaker truck found nearby. Evidence points toward Trevor Jacobi as the culprit behind the steering wheel of the death mobile. He is missing with a four-hour head start. A second victim, Jacobi’s elderly father, Earl Jacobi, is found dead in the truck registered in his name. Brubaker now has two murder inquiries. His probes uncover layered family dynamics, revealing abuse and estrangement. Leadership conflicts within the Sheriff’s Department hinder progress. The chase for Jacobi extends from Minnesota to Florida, revealing his aggressive tendencies and criminal schemes, including money laundering, illegal immigrant shakedowns, and offshore drug trafficking, plus a missing million dollars linked to Jacobi’s Cuban-American boss. Brubaker and Tampa police clash over jurisdictional authority once Jacobi is captured. The case deepens with the suspected double murder-for-hire of a Tampa Civil Rights advocate and the Cuban-American’s wife. All evidence points to Jacobi and his former boss, who has fled to Cuba. A vulnerable, unreliable witness to Jacobi’s crime spree is murdered along with two officers escorting him to protective custody. Brubaker relies heavily on Corporal Linda Michaels, whose friendship, training, and instincts support him. Their bond is both professional and emotional. She is in love with Brubaker. He wavers, nostalgically unable to let go of old memories. The investigation climaxes with violent clashes against hired thugs from Florida attempting to recover stolen cash. Michaels’s marksmanship saves Brubaker’s life at one point. Ultimately, it comes down to Brubaker and Jacobi in a fight to the death, leaving the detective injured and needing hospital care. Jacobi is worse for wear, requiring multiple surgeries, lying in pain and agony behind steel bars, wearing Brubaker’s handcuffs.

1. What is this I’m experiencing?
2. Does anything exist beyond this?
3. Who and what am I?
4. Why am I here?
5. Does God exist?
6. What choices do I have in any of this?
7. What happens when I die?

These are the seven most important questions you’ll ever ask. These seven critical questions, the answers, and ramifications are the focus of Rebellion and the Return to Soul Consciousness: Transcending Karma, Death, and Reincarnation.

Throughout history, great thinkers have all tried to answer these life-altering questions. From ancient shamans to modern spiritual leaders, people have done their best to guide others to the truth.

As many as 4200 religions sprang up in response to the deep desire for spiritual truth. Most people have followed at least one religion in an attempt to find meaning and purpose in life. Many have jumped from one religion to another, desperately searching for answers, only to find the biggest questions remain unanswered.

Some have, in utter frustration, abandoned religion altogether, becoming agnostics or even atheists. While agnostics settle with the idea that these vital questions are unknowable, atheists firmly embrace the idea that there is nothing beyond this. But that requires a tremendous amount of faith, and just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean it’s unknowable.

Science has evolved into a quite sophisticated philosophy in which all that is unprovable by science does not exist. However, cutting-edge science now recognizes a realm beyond time and space in which all potential exists. Furthermore, this potential only manifests as physical reality when it is observed. So, consciousness plays a role in the creation of physical reality.

Therefore, this non-physical consciousness or Spirit, which so many so-called rational people deny, is responsible for the very physical reality in which they exist. Still, spiritual truth is what it is: infinite.

Because spirituality is not limited by the strict rules and rituals of religion, including atheism, and science, spirituality expands into what would otherwise be prohibited. Spirituality will dramatically improve your physical, mental, and spiritual health and solve the many problems in life that can only be solved on a spiritual level.

If you’re still reading this, then Rebellion and the Return to Soul Consciousness: Transcending Karma, Death, and Reincarnation is for you; you’re ready. Prepare to have your heart and mind opened to the realm of Soul Consciousness. With love and light, Howard

Reeling from the devastation of 9/11, Americans anxiously waited for the other shoe to drop. Then the anthrax letters came, branded by the FBI as the worst biological attacks in U.S. history. Despite a lengthy and expensive investigation, no suspect was ever charged.

Six hours after Patsy Ramsey called the Boulder police and frantically reported that her daughter had been kidnapped on the day after Christmas in 1996, JonBenét Ramsey’s father cried out from the basement of their home and emerged carrying the body of his six-year-old daughter, launching one of the most notorious murder investigations of modern times. More than twenty-seven years later, no one has ever been tried for the murder.

In the summer of 1969, as the first astronaut stepped on the moon and 350,000 Americans flocked to Woodstock, the Zodiac Killer terrorized California residents, claiming his murder victims would become his slaves in the afterlife. Despite one of the longest-running investigations in California history, the killer has never been identified.

On January 15, 1947, the body of the woman known as the Black Dahlia was discovered in a vacant lot in Los Angeles. The corpse had been cut in two at the waist, eviscerated, and drained of blood. The search for her killer became one of the most extensive homicide investigations in LAPD history. Despite thousands of leads and multiple confessions, the murder of Elizabeth Short has never been solved. Or has it?

Twenty-month-old Charles Lindbergh Jr. was kidnapped from the nursery of his family's New Jersey home on March 1, 1932. Bruno Hauptmann was convicted and executed, but did he act alone? Or could Charles Lindbergh himself have played a role?

Following a traumatic murder and a public hanging, sisters Milla and Zalea decide they must escape from the Woods Tribe. It’s the only home they’ve ever known, but as females, they are subservient to men’s rules. While they once enjoyed protected status, being the Leader’s granddaughters, his death means they’ve instantly become chattel, to be handed out as wives to whichever men the new leader chooses.

Zalea is startlingly beautiful. Milla is unable to speak. Their distinctions will work against their need to go unnoticed, but they see no other choice. In the dead of night, they leave the tribe.

The girls travel southward, looking for the father Zalea thought was dead. They encounter many different tribes, each formed on the basis of ethnicity and function. While Leaders decide the local rules, all tribes are united under six Commanders and a head of state, Chief Vox. Separate but equal is, people have been taught for twenty years, the best way for a nation to operate.

Back in the Woods Tribe, a surprising awakening occurs. The disappearance of Milla and Zalea brings another woman to the conclusion that she too must escape. Pushing aside her secrets and past mistakes, she will take the risks she could not face until now. Her journey, though different from the younger girls’, is also fraught with danger. The underside of Fairica is rotten and cruel, but she learns there are still those who are trustworthy and courageous.

Within this unique book’s pages are daring rescues and clever deceptions. Determined rebels engage and defeat smug villains. Strong characters pull readers into the story, entertaining them with action and creativity. The resolution is satisfying, crafted with both honesty and hopefulness.

Woven into the powerful story are possibly inflammatory questions about society. What happens when women are made second-class citizens? What is the result of separating people into tribes by religion, ethnicity, and values? Would we be happier, or at least more content, if we lived in a group where we felt accepted, supported, and justified?

You will be captivated by this action-driven account of Milla and Zalea and their courageous journey. You will cheer for them as they fight the Powers that want to “put them in their place.” It’s a great story, but remember—behind it all is the disturbing possibility that Fairica is the future.

In a realm already sliding toward ruin, the prophecy that once promised salvation has become a cruel joke. Husam, the boy named as the chosen one who would restore balance, has spent years in captivity. The darkness that holds him has eroded his certainty, strength, and the belief that he was ever meant to matter.

While he endures, Amaris, the world outside, continues to fracture under the influence of Sathariel, a force that has already toppled kingdoms and poisoned the very magic that once sustained its people.

Far from that suffering, four teenagers living ordinary lives on Earth find themselves torn from everything familiar. Nadia, Afsana, Oke, and Minji come from different countries and carry different wounds, yet each is drawn through a Thura Gate into a reality that operates by rules they cannot yet understand. What begins as confusion quickly becomes urgency when they realize the realm they have entered is dying, and the figure at the center of its last hope is no longer whole.

Their path leads them toward Husam and toward a confrontation that will demand more than courage. It will require them to confront the gap between destiny and reality, between the stories told about heroes and the messy, painful process of becoming one. Along the way they face corrupted landscapes, ancient threats, and the constant pressure of a prophecy that offers no gentle path forward. Friendships form under pressure. Loyalties are tested. The cost of every choice becomes clearer.

The Reckoning is a darker, more psychologically layered approach to the portal fantasy tradition. It explores what happens when the expected savior has already been broken, and when ordinary young people must decide whether to step into a conflict that was never meant to be theirs. Themes of endurance, reluctant responsibility, and the quiet strength found in connection run through the story, balanced by high-stakes action, mythical creatures, and the ever-present threat of a villain who has already proven capable of winning.

Written for readers who appreciate coming-of-age journeys set against large-scale magical conflict, the novel invites those drawn to stories of portals, chosen ones, and the difficult space between fate and free will. It offers a version of the epic quest that acknowledges the weight of trauma, the complexity of hope, and the possibility that salvation may look different than anyone expected.

In a genre often defined by rising heroes, The Reckoning asks a quieter, harder question: what remains when the hero has already been nearly destroyed—and who will stand with him when the final confrontation arrives?
