The Story Behind the Book
This book was written by a Corsican artist with no writing experience and a retired English accountant. It was her third novel. The two live 500 kilometres apart and speak two different languages, and the entire book was written using email and very long phone conversations over many months. Keeble's emails were in English and Angelini's in French, which created a possibly unique writing experience.
The Central Question
This book explores the emotional damage that life can inflict and the different ways that humans have of dealing with it. Both characters struggle with events in their past and eventually find a certain healing through discussions which are brutally honest. The reader will walk away, deep in thought, wondering if the ideas in this book will ever leave them.
