You are smart, capable, driven and reliable. The professional who gets it done.

So why does everything feel so heavy lately?

Burnout is more than stress. It happens when physical exhaustion, emotional depletion, and mental overwhelm stack up until you are running on fumes. Your health is suffering. Your relationships are strained. You dread going to work.

Yet high performers often respond by blaming themselves and pushing even harder—deepening the very cycle they are trying to escape. Or they try doing more self-care or taking more vacations only to find it doesn’t solve burnout.

The Thrival Code is your way out.

ER physician, burnout recovery expert and sustainable success coach, Archana Shrestha, MD, reveals how to move out of survival mode and into Thrival mode—a state in which you thrive in both your career and personal life simultaneously.

Through her practical Body–Heart–Mind framework, you will build three sustainable success skills most high performers were never taught:

BODY: Practice self-stewardship
Move beyond surface-level self-care and rebuild the foundation of sustainable energy. You will create a realistic plan for sleep, movement, hydration, nourishment, and recovery—one that works within the demands of a busy professional life.

HEART: Develop emotional bounce
Learn how to move through difficult feelings without suppressing, reacting, or numbing them with food or alcohol. You will recognize and let go of the patterns you use to escape emotional discomfort and replace them with tools that help you bounce through negative emotions in real-time.

MIND: Think on purpose
Your thoughts shape your reality and how you experience your work, leadership, relationships, and life. You will identify the default mental patterns keeping you stuck in survival mode and learn to lead yourself with greater calm, clarity, and intention.

Inside, you will discover how to:
• Stop treating burnout as a personal failing and recognize it as a temporary state you can change
• Rebuild your energy through practical, sustainable self-stewardship
• Shift out of constant survival mode and lead, parent, and live with greater intention
• Dismantle the high-performer burnout trifecta of perfectionism, imposterism, and self-criticism
• Reconnect with joy, meaning, and impact—without quitting your job or escaping your life
• Create success that no longer comes at the expense of your health, relationships, or yourself

You do not need to lower your ambition to protect your well-being and relationships. Rather you need a more sustainable way to succeed.

If you are ready to stop surviving and start thriving in your life and career, The Thrival Code will give you the language, skills, and structure to make that shift real.

More About This Book

When and Why Should Someone Read It?

One doctor recommends medication. Another recommends ablation. A third says to wait and monitor. How can qualified physicians look at the same condition and reach different conclusions—and how are you supposed to know what makes sense for you?

The problem usually is not that you need more information about atrial fibrillation. It is that no one has shown you how the pieces fit together.

My book gives you a clear way to organize the problem, evaluate the tradeoffs, and connect each treatment recommendation to the goal it is actually meant to accomplish.

If You Loved These, You'll Love This

This book has a similar mission to Lesley Moffat’s “I Love My Job But It's Killing Me: The Teacher's Guide to Conquering Chronic Stress and Sickness.” Where Lesley is dedicated to improving the lives of teachers facing burnout, I am seeking to help fellow health and medical professionals. Meaningful work doesn’t need to be the death of us.

My ambition has a kindred spirit in Michelle Gielan’s “Resilient Optimism: The Science of Sustaining a Positive Mindset in Tough Times.” While we share our own ideas and practices with our readers, I think we are both writing to the people who often seek habits and routines that increase stress and shame.

Last but not least, an ally I can see in the top 100 Kindle boards is Stacey Ishman (MD MPH FAAP FACS), who wrote “The Physician’s Guide to Owning Your Time: Do Less. Accomplish More.” Her approach is focused on different variables, but both of us are keen to help medical professionals increase accomplishment without amplifying burnout.

The Story Behind the Book

Dr. Archana Shrestha wrote The Thrival Code after experiencing the burnout she thought would never happen to her. Drawn to emergency medicine by its adrenaline, variety, and opportunity to help people through critical moments, she became a board-certified emergency physician in the Chicago suburbs. A decade into her career, she loved her work—but was deeply burned out.

Learning three skills—self-stewardship, emotional bounce, and thinking on purpose—helped her recover and become the wife, mother, and doctor she wanted to be. These skills became the foundation of her Body–Heart–Mind framework.

As a sustainable success coach, speaker, and chief wellness officer, she now helps other high performers navigate similar struggles. This book draws on her personal recovery and professional experience to show that meaningful work and ambition do not have to come at the expense of health, relationships, or personal well-being.

The Central Question

At the heart of The Thrival Code is a question: How can driven professionals pursue meaningful success without sacrificing their health, relationships, and well-being?

The book addresses the cycle of exhaustion, self-blame, and pushing harder that keeps many high performers stuck in burnout. Through Dr. Archana Shrestha’s Body–Heart–Mind framework, readers learn to rebuild their energy through self-stewardship, navigate difficult feelings through emotional bounce, and challenge automatic mental patterns by thinking on purpose.

Readers should walk away with practical skills for moving from survival mode into “Thrival”—a way of succeeding that supports both their career and personal life. The central message is that protecting well-being does not require abandoning ambition; it requires a more sustainable approach to achieving it.
